Launched in 2010, the 5726 model represents a major evolution in the Nautilus collection, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, by incorporating the annual calendar – a complication patented by Patek Philippe in 1996. Requiring just one adjustment per year, this mechanism combines practicality with horological sophistication.
The steel version with a gradient dial and a leather or rubber strap is now one of the most sought-after models in the Nautilus line. It combines the iconic design by Gérald Genta with enhanced mechanical complexity, offering a rare balance between sportiness and fine watchmaking.
Patek Philippe’s reference 5726 in our steel version represents one of the most accomplished expressions of the annual calendar in the world of contemporary fine watchmaking.
This timepiece is distinguished by its annual calendar complication, a particularly sophisticated function that automatically displays the date, day, month and moon phases, requiring just a single manual adjustment per year, at the transition from February to March. This technical feat perfectly illustrates the watchmaking expertise of the Geneva-based manufacture.
The case, also available in white gold or rose gold depending on the version at the time, has a diameter of 44 mm, giving the watch a commanding presence on the wrist whilst retaining a measured elegance. The dial, remarkably legible despite the wealth of information displayed, bears witness to Patek Philippe’s aesthetic mastery in the organisation of complications.
The automatic Calibre 324 S QA LU 24H movement powering our example is no longer in production on the current reference 5726/1A-001 listed in the catalogue, which is fitted with the Calibre 26-330 S QA LU 24H. The meticulous finishing of the movement, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, reveals the Côtes de Genève and the chamfering characteristic of the manufacture.
This model follows in the tradition of Patek Philippe’s annual calendars, a complication that the house has helped to popularise in contemporary luxury watchmaking, offering a refined alternative to the perpetual calendar for discerning enthusiasts.
