The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Platinum Number Two: a Technical
Masterpiece This Reverso represents the culmination of the Joux Valley Manufacture’s watchmaking expertise. Limited to 500 pieces, it combines the iconic Reverso flip-over case with one of watchmaking’s most prestigious complications: the tourbillon.
The Reverso Case: An Art Deco Legacy
Created in 1931, the Reverso concept was born from a request by British officers stationed in India, who wished to protect their watch crystals during polo matches. The flipping mechanism allows the dial to be concealed, revealing a customisable caseback.
In this platinum version, the case embodies all the nobility of this precious metal. Platinum, denser and rarer than gold, gives the watch a substantial weight and an incomparable presence on the wrist.
The Tourbillon: An Exceptional Complication
The tourbillon, invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1795, is one of the most fascinating horological complications; it was patented on 7 Messidor Year IX (26 June 1801). This technical feat involves placing the escapement and balance wheel within a rotating cage that completes a full rotation in one minute.
Principle and Function of the Tourbillon
The original purpose of the tourbillon was to counteract the effects of Earth’s gravity on the movement’s accuracy, particularly in pocket watches carried vertically. Although this function is more visual in wristwatches, the tourbillon remains a symbol of horological excellence.
The hypnotic rotation of the tourbillon cage offers a mechanical spectacle of striking beauty. Every component of this complication requires exceptional craftsmanship and extremely precise manufacturing tolerances.
Calibre 848: Manufacture Excellence
This hand-wound mechanical movement, fitted with 25 jewels, perfectly illustrates Jaeger-LeCoultre’s technical mastery. The Manufacture develops and produces this calibre entirely in-house, guaranteeing exemplary quality and reliability.
A Collector’s Piece
This Reverso Platinum Number Two is designed for the most discerning collectors. Its rarity, prestigious complication and platinum case make it an exceptional timepiece destined to be passed down through the generations. The inclusion of the presentation box and duplicate certificate of authenticity significantly enhances the heritage value of this watch.
