Adrien Jean-Baptiste Amable Ramond, known as du Bosc, was a distinguished French general during the Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars, fighting notably at Marengo and in the campaigns in Austria, Prussia and Poland. Here we see him in his role as brigade commander in the light cavalry (appointed on 13 November 1797) in Italy. He was seriously wounded at Guttstadt, losing an arm, and was promoted to Major General in 1807 and created Count of the Empire. After various posts (such as military governor of Warsaw and Torgau), he was taken prisoner and subsequently retired. He was a Peer of France. His name appears on the Arc de Triomphe.

This previously unpublished miniature is a valuable discovery for the iconography of this distinguished officer of the Empire.
