A prize cup from the Horticulture Section, crafted from gilded chiselled bronze.  The body is encircled by a frieze of foliage and flanked by two handles featuring busts of Ceres. It supports a festooned garland of laurel leaves. The front is adorned with a medallion tied with a ribbon bearing the inscription: "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE MDCCCLXII À PARIS/ HORTICULTURE". The reverse is also adorned with a circular lunette, now missing its medallion. The foot is decorated with suspended wheat ears and the rim of the base features a frieze of water leaves.
Signed CHRISTOFLE & Cie on the reverse, late 19th century.
