


CROSS OF THE CANONESS OF SALLES

A rare cross from the Chapter of Salles in Beaujolais, in yellow gold and coloured enamels. A pommeled cross enamelled in white with a green border, featuring fleurs-de-lis in the spandrels. The oval centre depicts the Virgin and Child on one side, with the inscriptions: VIR. NOBILITATIS QUE DECUS and on the reverse, Saint George with the inscriptions: COMTESSE DE SALLE. The cross is surmounted by a count’s crown holding the loop.
