A gemmologist and master jeweller at Van Cleef & Arpels for twenty years, Louis Gérard drew on his experience to found a jewellery house in 1968, with the quality of the stones used as its guiding principle; ‘M. Gérard’ was born. Although his sole ambition was “to create the most beautiful jewellery in the world”, Gérard paid no less attention to the craftsmanship, working with the workshop of André Vassort, a long-standing subcontractor for Van Cleef & Arpels. Based on Avenue Montaigne, Louis Gérard distinguished himself from his competitors on the Place Vendôme with ostentatious and luxurious creations aimed at an international clientele. A total work of art in jewellery, the jewellery set became one of M. Gérard’s signature pieces.
