 "...It is even more surprising to find horn among the materials in the silversmith’s workshop. Lalique was the first designer to use it in jewellery, as early as 1896. He valued it for its translucency, malleability and flexibility.[...] It is clear that it was, for example, the finest material for ornamental combs, yet René Lalique embellished them with enamelled gold or even precious stones, which he secured with almost invisible screws and rivets.
