A lacquered sheet metal obelisk in the style of a return from Egypt, entirely painted with pseudo-hieroglyphic motifs in gold on a black background. The gilded bronze base with four winged sphinxes on a three-square-tiered base.

Attributed to Werner &| Mieth (active between 1792 and 1819)

RELATED WORK An obelisk very similar to the one shown here, donated to Werner &| Mieth, is in the Corning Museum of Glass [Accession number: 2013.3.13]. It should be noted that, at the time these obelisks were made, Berlin was under the control of Bonaparte's army, which implies a French order.
