Pierre Mathivet (1771 - 1851), chevalier de l'Empire, who had distinguished himself in the Italian and Spanish wars, became an infantry general and obtained the honorary rank of retired marshal de camp| his half-brother François (1786 - 1875) ended his military career as a captain. Both were great-great-uncles of collector Roger de Montégudet (1880 - 1925), who inherited these documents.
