"BUILLIER OU BULETER (ANTOINE), born March 10, 1773, in Sussey (Côte-d'Or). Builler entered the service on September 1, 1791, in the 2nd battalion of Côte-d'Or volunteers, which became the 75th half-brigade of the League, and served from 1792 to An IX in the armies of the Alps, Italy and the Orient. He stood out for his courage, and it was on the express orders of General-in-Chief Bonaparte that he was appointed sergeant with double pay. This favor was granted on Brumaire 20, Year VI. Wounded at El-
Arisch, on 21 pluviôse an VII, he distinguished himself again at the siege of Saint-Jean-D'acre on 21 floréal of the same year, and was wounded by a gunshot while fighting valiantly in the breach. His fine conduct during the capture of Cairo earned him the rank of second lieutenant on February 18th, Year VII. He continued to wage war in Egypt with great bravery, and was awarded a saber of honor on 16 Messidor An X. The First Consul's decree states that this award is given to Buillier, "who, at the debacles that took place at Saint-Martin and Arcole, on 22 brumaire, 23, 25, 26 and 27 nivôse, marched intrepidly at the head of his comrades."
Stricken with ophthalmia, which caused him to lose his right eye entirely, he was retired as a lieutenant on fructidor 21, year XIII, and awarded the star of Officer of the Légion-d'Honneur on the following prairial 25. Having become blind, the Emperor, on receiving an account of this brave officer's position, increased his retirement pension to 1,000 francs, by decree of February 9, 1809, replacing the 558 francs he had previously received."
