MUSKETEER’S SABRE OF THE FIRST COMPANY OF THE KING’S MILITARY HOUSE, KNOWN AS ‘THE GREY MUSKETEERS’.
Model 1814. Brass hilt of the ‘battle guard’ type. Oval pommel decorated with line engraving.
A jointing arch from which four branches extend, meeting at the medallion bearing the musketeers’ emblem.
On the other side of the arch, a branch joining the inner crossguard decorated with a palmette motif.
Wooden tang covered in leather with double filigree alternating with brass. Straight single-edged blade, two fuller lines, stamped ‘AP’ at the heel and signed ‘FRERES WEYERSBERG A SOLINGEN’.
Scabbard of the King’s Bodyguards, first model, in leather with three brass fittings and two suspension rings.
The pommel was formerly reattached; part of a branch on the counterguard is missing.
