ORIENTAL SABER OF CHARLES-FERDINAND D'ARTOIS
DUC DE BERRY (1778 - 1820)
Oriental-style gilt bronze and ebony mounting.
Stock-shaped, squared and pierced ebony spindle with eyelets for passing the lanyard through.
Guard with two inverted quillons decorated with scrolls, standing out from the ellipse-shaped cruise.
The obverse is chased with the numeral "CF", for Charles Ferdinand under the royal crown.
On the reverse, a rosette of stylized acanthus leaves. Curved damascus blade with hollow sides, gutter and counter-edge.
Engraved and enhanced in gold with a crossed-out imperial eagle under crown. Probably a gift or prize blade of symbolic value to its former owner, reassembled by the commissioner.
Iron scabbard with three brass fittings.
Two ellipse bracelets with the coat of arms of France and trefoils on the reverse (one damaged, see appendix). Long chased and gilded brass cap and openwork roquillard stinger.

- A gold passementerie strap (faded) and large bangs.
- A handwritten document on the letterhead of H. Manière, expert in military curiosities and historical objects / Direction des ventes publiques, describing this "saber that belonged to the Duc de Berry", mentioning the accident to one of the two bracelets and the price of the set with a belt.
- An early sketch of the saber with its lanyard.
