MARINE SABRE DIRECTOIRE Bronze and ebony mounting. Rectangular cap, guard with two inverted quillons and scalloped cruise. Ebony spindle. Strong curved blade with scimitar-type gutter. Leather scabbard with two brass fittings and iron stinger, inscribed "LT, Laguarde" on the cap.

Used for non-regulation purposes or for the merchant navy, it seems to have been reused by the fire department under Louis Philippe. This type of saber is believed to have been made in Bordeaux. One example is known to bear a Phrygian cap.
