MENTQUE FAMILY ARMS Silver-plated die with square field engraved with a shield bearing the Mentque (Martin or Clicquot) arms: "Argent, three alerions Sable, in chief a sun Gules" under a count's crown.
Supporters: two lions.
Terrace with a Legion of Honor cross.
Bone handle with two flats and twisted ribs.
Second half of the 19th century.

Considering the dating of the object and the presence of the Légion d'Honneur cross hanging from the terrace, this seal could be either that of Charles Martin de Mentque (1797 - 1872), or that of his brother Edouard Mar tin de Mentque (1808 - 1878) or one of their two Clicquot nephews who took over the Mentque name following the decree of September 1, 1869: Louis Henry Clicquot de Mentque (1817 - 1870) or his brother Charles-Eugène Clicquot de Mentque (1829 - 1894).
