Jean Mahie
Founded by Jacline Mazard and her father-in-law Jean-Marie Mazard in the 1960s, the Jean Mahie workshop quickly carved out a place for itself in the world of jewellery thanks to pieces as unexpected as the partnership between the designer and the businessman. Conceived as a true work of art, each piece is as unique as it is instantly recognisable, boasting a shimmering colour – as they are often crafted from 22-carat yellow gold – but also a design evoking the ‘gold smith’s’ Tunisian childhood or her taste for antiquity, the Mediterranean basin and their artefacts. These are the very elements that attracted Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels to display her jewellery in their showcases on the Place Vendôme.
The American jeweller Jean Mahie, born in 1943, distinguished himself by crafting his pieces by hand, thereby enhancing the intrinsic beauty of gold. He was among the first artists to have his work exhibited under his own name in major jewellery houses on Place Vendôme, such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Each of Jean Mahie’s pieces reflects a fusion of jewellery tradition and the creative innovation of his time
