Notes:
Swiss watchmakers, notably from La Chaux-de-Fonds, exported their watches to Spain and Latin America. At the end of the 19th century, La Chaux-de-Fonds, located in the Swiss Jura, was a major center of the world watchmaking industry. In 1870, almost half of its working population was employed in the watchmaking sector, and this tradition continues to this day, with some of the exceptional timepieces produced by the region's watchmakers of that era now on display at the MIH, Musée International Horlogerie de la Chaux-de-Fonds.
