Notes:
This 1930s "Tank Normale" watch, similar to the one sold by Aguttes on December 12, 2023, was probably revised by Cartier after the war, which explains the replaced parts (dial, movement) typical of the 1950s and described as "service". Its mesh bracelet, described as "Figaro fabric" in Franco Cologni's book Cartier La Montre Tank, appears in an archival image from 1926.
The "Tank Normale", with its pure lines and perfect proportions, embodies Art Deco with its symmetry, geometry and discreet luxury. Cartier has sublimated this aesthetic with refined, minimalist variations. Worn by the likes of Rudolph Valentino, it became a symbol of modernity and global elegance.
Created in 1917 by Louis Cartier, the "Tank Normale" was inspired by the Renault FT tanks of the First World War. Launched in 1919, it became an Art Deco icon in the 1920s and 1940s. A few examples were produced with solid gold Figaro or jaseron bracelets, often on special request.
