VIETNAM LY DYNASTY (1010-1125)
Small covered offering stand in transparent-glazed stoneware, the central tray left matt and decorated with an incised scroll on a pitted background, resting on a base with triple rows of lotus petals in relief.
The slightly domed lid is decorated with two friezes of small circles, and a multi-petal flower enhanced with iron oxide.

NOTE This type of support, with its elegant lines and refined details, recalls the sculptural quality of Champa and Chinese silverware from the same period. These pieces were used in the context of Buddhist ceremonies or funeral ceremonies to present offerings to a deity. Two similar displays (but without lids) are preserved in the collections of the Musée
National des Arts Asiatiques Guimet, Paris (MA6370) and Musée Cernuschi, Paris (M.C.
8225).
