Porsche 550 Spyder par Beck – 1987
French historic registration title
The Porsche 550 Spyder is an icon beyond the world of collectors and classic car enthusiasts. It is a myth, a hymn to freedom and rebellious spirit that became the symbol of a whole generation eager for thrills. More a work of art than a car, the 90 or so produced from 1953 onwards were reserved for rare enthusiasts. Some stars even got behind the wheel, like James Dean in his “Little Bastard”.
Purchased in March 2021 by its current owner – one of the greatest French designer in the world – from an enthusiast in
the Toulouse department, it is without doubt the most beautiful 550 Spyder we have ever seen. Beck is renowned for the quality of its workmanship, but many efforts have been made over the last four years to improve its presentation and performance.
Aesthetically, the car passed through the hands of Atelier L36 in Vaires-sur-Marne, renowned for the quality of its work on Porsche 356s and derivatives. The entire body has recently been repainted there, and the entire passenger compartment has been covered in aluminium, in addition to the two doors. The invoice amounts to more than €20,000. You’d be wrong, it’s so perfectly executed that it looks like a genuine Porsche 550 A Spyder.
Mechanically, its Volkswagen-sourced Flat 4 has always been scrupulously maintained. Fuelled by two Weber carburettors, its power is there for the taking. The four-speed gearbox is pleasant and the front disc brakes are reassuring. A great deal of work has gone into the chassis, with precise steering, good damping and reassuring handling even at high speeds. Its weight/power ratio (590kg) makes this Spyder 550 a perfectly balanced car.
A true collector’s car, it comes from the first series of Beck Spyders produced from 1983 onwards. It was registered abroad
in 1984 before arriving in France in 2016. 2nd French hand according to its Histovec report, this car has been duly registered
since July 2016 with the words “Spyder 550 replica”. And that changes everything!
