Citroën SM – 1972 - Lot 6
Citroën SM – 1972 French registration title The Citroën “S Maserati”, or SM, was designed by Robert Opron in 1970 and powered by a superb 170 hp 2.7 litre V6 engine. It was a 2+2 coupé that was as powerful as it was comfortable. Handling was fantastic, and above all safe, thanks to the hydropneumatic suspension and Diravi power steering on which it was inaugurated. It was a great success in its early years, but the oil crises and slight reliability problems curtailed the career of the great Citroën. The model shown here is a white SM with carburettors and a black leather interior. Launched in January 1972, it was first registered in the Var region of France, then in Paris, before joining a collection in Brittany. Our SM is in generally good condition and the interior is still the original one, albeit a little cracked. The bodywork was repainted in 2020 and looks very nice and shiny. The car has since been used extensively for classic car outings, and notably took part in the marque’s centenary in 2019 and then in the Breton Florio Cup on a regular basis. The car runs very satisfactorily thanks to regular maintenance by its owner since its acquisition. A number of invoices can be seen in the file, including some recent minor repairs. With a fairly attractive valuation and excellent mechanical condition, this SM is a smart buy for the lover of exotic cars. SMs are enjoying a general resurgence in popularity of late, and the price is climbing!
