CHINA QING DYNASTY, late 19th CENTURY
Important palace carpet in wool, silk and gilded metallic threads decorated with five imperial dragons chasing the pearl among dense floral and foliage scrolls. One dragon is depicted frontally in the center of the composition, the other four in spandrels. All framed by a border of floral scrolls. At the top, a "Yongren Gong Yuyong" mark (For imperial use in the Palace of Eternal Benevolence).

NOTE: Carpets bearing a "Yuyong" (For imperial use) mark are relatively rare in palace carpet production. A carpet bearing a similar "Yongren Gong Yuyong" mark sold by Sotheby's, May 15, 2013, lot 72.
