Roland Gaubert trained at the Beaux-Arts de Tours. In 1937, he entered the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris and occasionally took part in the Salon d'Automne. Attached to his Franc-Comtois roots, he has exhibited regularly at the Salon des Annonciades in Pontarlier since 1937, as well as in local galleries. He had a major monographic exhibition at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dole in 1986, and took part in several group shows at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Besançon. An exhibition organized by the Mac3 association in Dole in 2008 recalls Gaubert's connection with the town where he was born. It brought together nine of the ten works donated to the museum by his wife in 2011.
