Note
Maurice Hagemans is recognized today as a watercolorist who excelled in rural scenes. A friend of Félicien Rops, he went on a training trip with him to Norway and Germany in 1876. He also trained as a marine painter in Antwerp from 1884 to 1887. But it was in Brussels that he pursued his career. He also lived and worked in Anseremme, at the Auberge des Artistes, where the "Anseremme colony" gathered in summer. Camille Lemonnier was a great admirer of his work, whose "virtuosity is so precise and enamelled".
