BUST OF EPHESUS
in carved white marble, head looking slightly
slightly to his left, crowned
with laurels, the back of the headdress falling
low on the nape of the neck in singular curls
a slight Adam's apple visible.
He wears a tunic with a fibula over his right shoulder
right shoulder and an elaborate strap
over his torso.
Presumed to be Roman,
1st or 2nd century (?)

Depth: 14 cm
On a circular pedestal: Total height: 57 cm
(Repolished parts, erosions, small missing parts)

PROVENANCE
- Former Galerie Phillippe Dodier.

The features of our bust suggest that
suggest that it is a divinized representation
of a Mauritanian king like Juba II or his son
Ptolemy in the guise of Appollon.
