During the Second World War, the American Hamilton watch brand played a crucial role in the war effort by producing shipboard watches and marine chronometers for the American army and its allies, as shown by this example of a shipboard watch. Hamilton distinguished itself by the quality and precision of its instruments, making it a trusted supplier to the US Navy and US Army Air Corps.

When the United States entered the war in 1941, Hamilton was given an important mission: to produce accurate and reliable time-measuring instruments, indispensable for air and sea navigation. Hamilton temporarily ceased production of luxury civilian watches to focus exclusively on military needs, becoming a major player in the manufacture of chronometers and shipboard watches.
