Cruciform watch in gilded metal and rock crystal, pre-sprung balance wheel
Case: cruciform on hinge, finely chased on the rims, multi-faceted rock crystal covers on front and back, gilded metal mounts, stylized pendant
Dial: silvered with engraved country scene, Roman numerals, entirely engraved with floral motifs and foliage around the perimeter, hour circle with Roman numerals and half-hour divisions, blued steel hand, lower part decorated with a character
Movement: mechanical with key winding, the plate surrounded by an engraved black border, pre-sprung balance wheel, chased and pierced cock, spindle and chain, verge escapement, embellished click, signature on plate "Charles Bobinet".

A similar cruciform watch signed by Charles Bobinet appeared in the sale of the Jubinal de Saint Albin Collection, April 1, 1938, Me Etienne Ader, Hôtel Drouot, Paris.
Another watch by Charles Bobinet, also cruciform, with rock crystal lids and a decorative scheme similar to the present watch, is in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (museum number M.560.1910). Other rock crystal watches by Charles Bobinet can be found in New York's Metropolitan Museum (silver, rock crystal and cross-shaped enamel) and in the Fitzwilliam Museum (scalloped rock crystal case). In addition to the cruciform watch mentioned above, the Victoria and Albert Museum has another rock-crystal watch by Charles Bobinet with a scalloped case. Charles Bobinet (1610-1678) is listed by O. Patrizzi in his Dictionnaire des Horlogers Genevois (Antiquorum Editions, 1998) where the author notes that, although Bobinet was a Swiss manufacturer, he sometimes signed his watches "Paris", perhaps for commercial reasons. Bobinet is also listed by Baillie, Britten and Tardy. This master watchmaker built watches mainly in rock crystal and hard stone, most of them cruciform. He trained several apprentices, including Jean Bastard in 1638, Vincent Perissel in 1639, Jaques and François Chenevière in 1654 and 1655, and Jacques Sullin in 1664.
