The Africa museum reopened in 2019 in Tervuren, after five years of renovation. Long called the "Musée colonial" because of its origins, the "Musée royal du Congo belge" was renamed the "Musée royal de l'Afrique centrale" after the Democratic Republic of Congo gained independence in 1960.
