Mercedes-Benz 300 « Pékin-Paris » – 1952 - Lot 50
Mercedes-Benz 300 « Pékin-Paris » – 1952 Luxembourg registration title Sold without contrôle technique The Mercedes 300 was presented at the 1951 Frankfurt Motor Show, and was the largest and most powerful German production car at the time. It quickly became the preferred car of wealthy industrialists and politicians, earning it the nickname “Adenauer” in reference to the German Chancellor, who used it for all his travels. Based on the pre-war 260, it was equipped with a 6-cylinder 3.0l engine with overhead camshafts, developing 115 hp in its first version and capable of reaching 160 km/h; available as a sedan or a D convertible, it benefited from numerous evolutions until 1962, when it was replaced by the 600. Sold new in Luxembourg, our example entered Mr. E.’s collection in 1978. He took part in the famous Beijing to Paris rally in 1997 and the 2000 Mile Trial in 2000; in preparation for these long, mechanically demanding events, our car was made reliable and prepared accordingly. In fact, it made it all the way to Paris without any major problems, proof of its robustness and unfailing reliability. The interior has been almost entirely preserved, and the dashboard has simply been fitted with a central control panel, a trip master and a lamp, the velvet rear bench and original door panels are still present and only the front seats have been replaced by Recaro bucket seats to ensure better support on the steep roads of the Beijing - Paris route; today, the car is in good general condition, the body was repainted several years ago in a sober navy blue; as our 300 has not been driven much in recent years, a simple mechanical restart will be required. This car has been pampered by its owner for 46 years, crossing Asia, the Middle East and Europe at its wheel, and is associated with many memories with family and friends; a car steeped in history, it now deserves to open a new chapter in its life, and is looking for a new owner to take it, who knows, to the Andes or to the Kilimanjaro. The rest of its story is up to you ! “A reliable, robust sedan that can stand up to the toughest rallies”
