Studebaker Coupé Champion (FIA) – 1954 - Lot 32
Studebaker Coupé Champion (FIA) – 1954 French historic registration title A true pillar of American car production, the Studebaker firm remains relatively unknown in Europe; their best-seller is called ‘Champion’ and will be produced in 5 different versions, powered by an in-line 6-cylinder then by a 4.7-litre V8 at the end of its career. Some of these cars went on to perform well in competition, such as the 1954 Tour de France Automobile with a Turkish crew, or, more significantly, a few times in the Carrera Panamericana, which they won several times! Our example is one of the few to be sold new in France, and was delivered in the Hérault region of France to an enthusiast who didn’t part with it until 2013 ; its second owner took a very different path, undertaking a complete restoration and preparation as soon as he bought it, with the aim of taking part in the Tour Auto, which he did in 2014, 2017 and 2019. Nearly €135,000 worth of costs later, our car has become an absolute racing beast powered by a Chevrolet V8 with almost 500 bhp, while remaining suitable for open road driving so that it can once again take part in the Tour Auto. Enthusiasts and racing drivers will find this exotic car ideal for historic racing, and at a very reasonable price for the money involved! “A unique car to take part in the next editions of the Tour Auto!”
