Morris Mini Cooper S « 1275 » – 1966 - Lot 12
Morris Mini Cooper S « 1275 » – 1966 Belge registration title Sold without contrôle technique A true masterpiece, the Austin Mini presented in 1959 would bow out 40 years later having become a true cross-enerational icon; the example we are presenting here is the most desirable, but also one of the rarest, of the countless versions produced up until 2000. The Mini owes its success to its great qualities in terms of roadholding, agility and sobriety, the famous John Cooper saw its potential and suggested to its creator Alec Issigonis that he produce a sharper version and this is how the Cooper was born, before becoming the Cooper S from 1964 with its 1,275cc engine; it didn’t take long for it to become a success, both in racing and on the high street! Launched in October 1966, our example is a rare MK1, of which only 7,824 were produced between 1964 and 1967; superb in its Surf Blue (BU35) livery with Old English White (WT3) roof, it was previously kept in one of Belgium’s finest collections Extensively restored a few years ago, the bodywork was stripped down to bare metal and all oxidised parts were replaced in accordance with the requirements of its current owner; all the bodywork gaskets and chromes were replaced or redone, the same applies to the interior, with Powder Blue/Gold Brocade Grey upholstery and its period correct Les Leston steering wheel. Mechanically, the engine has been extensively overhauled, the cylinder head rectified and fitted with large valves, and the water pump, fuel pump and clutch replaced; the brakes are brand new, as are the Yokohama Advan HF Type D tyres. Look no further, she’s the Mini for you. “From George Harrison to Brigitte Bardot, the Mini became a fashion accessory as well as a competitive lethal weapon.”
