Depicted seated in vajrasana, wearing a monastic robe covering both shoulders and held at the waist by a thin cord, adorned with numerous jewels, hands with long fingers efilés in vitarka and dhyana mudra.
Eyes half-closed, expression benevolent.
With a double lotiform base in stained wood.
Size: 50.5 x 32.2 x 31 cm
PROVENANCE:
Acquired in Indochina in the 1920s - 1930s by a military doctor, then by descent.
A similar statue, from the same period and also in dry lacquer, sold by Christies, New York, sale March 21-22, 2013, lot no. 1260.
