General DUJARD had him write a memoir requesting an officer's position to be chosen by the Convention| as General KELLERMANN had been called to the Army of the Alps, it is SCHERER who will support him... Hope of peace in Piedmont... Mantua 10 pluviose VI (January 29, 1798). Beautiful letter evoking a day in Venice, the entry of the Austrians into Verona, his lack of sympathy for the Italians, and the fate of the troops attached to the direction of the bridges.
