He can't hold a grudge, because he loves her "more than life itself [...] I want you to come, because it would be too naughty of you to deprive me of the happiness of seeing you again, and as proof that you keep nothing on your heart, I beg you, when you see me, to touch your neck locket with your hand, and in reply I'll touch my St George's cross. You will give me back my life in this way.
