He was unable to write to him earlier "because an illness such as those which have afflicted me every year since my arrival in France has not allowed me to attend to my most devoted friends.
Please believe, Monsieur, that the memory of the services you have so graciously rendered me will never fade from my memory, and that I shall endeavor on every occasion to show you my gratitude". He hopes Madame Jomard's health has recovered.
"Winter is behaving well here and I hope that if the good weather continues my chest irritation will disappear entirely. As I know [...] how much interest you take in me, I am sure you will be pleased to hear that my family is doing well, my son is growing rapidly and I have the best hopes for the future.
