Two large in-8 volumes. Illustrated with 10 plates by Carlos Schwabe, wood-engraved by Beltran and printed in color, including a frontispiece, and numerous framings and culs-de-lampe with floral decoration.
An exceptional copy comprising two volumes. The first contains the work itself, limited to 120 copies: this one, no. 7, is reserved for Louis Barthou. It includes 2 original signed drawings by Carlos Schwabe: the frontispiece and the hermaphrodite plate. The frontispiece is in 5 states, including 4 tests. Bound at the end of the volume are a large number of plates printed on China paper, including decompositions of the illustrations, as well as ornaments and frames in 2 states. This volume is bound in Charles Meunier's signature light-green half-maroquin with corners, Bradel style, smooth spine decorated with mosaic vegetal decoration, gilt author and title, cover and spine preserved, untrimmed (slight rubbing to corners).
The second volume contains an important suite of frames printed on China paper| bound by Marius Magnin, in Bradel-style gray half-maroquin with corners, smooth spine, gilt author and title (slight rubbing to corners).
to corners).

PROVENANCE
Louis Barthou (for the 1st vol.)| then Emile Bruell (engraved bookplate circa 1920).

ERRATUM
This copy contains 6 states of the frontispiece, and no original drawing of it.
Furthermore, the plate depicting the hermaphrodite does not exist in the engraved state in this edition (it is not mentioned in the table). It seems that this original drawing is unique. Perhaps it was refused.
