20th c., spines with 4 raised bands, small-ink ornamented caissons, gilt author and title, percaline of the original publisher's binding preserved on the boards, with the large gilt composition by Paul Souze on the upper boards, full margins, partly uncut (rare foxing).
Edition illustrated with woodcut compositions by Gustave Doré, including a frontispiece portrait of Rabelais, 60 plates and nearly 700 figures in the text.
Second edition, undated, identical to the first published in 1873.
