BERLIOZ (Hector). BÉATRICE &| BÉNÉDICT Opera in two acts imitated from Shakespeare...first performed at the new Theater in Baden, August 9, 1862.

In-4, [1] f. (illustrated title), 200 p. of notated music, contemporary red half-basin with corners, smooth spine, author, title, gilt fillets, initial "L" stamped in tail (binding worn, unbound| first 2 f. unbound, extensive but light wetness throughout, tear without missing title and p.39).
Copy of the pianist and composer Henry Litolff (1818-1891), with this signed autograph ex-dono from Hector Berlioz: "à mon ami Litolff, souvenir affectueux et admiratif". The binding bears the pianist's initial on the spine, and he in turn presented this precious copy to a dear friend, with this autograph signed letter dated 1872: "Souvenir affectueux à la femme de mon bien cher collaborateur Jules Brésil". Jules Brésil was a writer, playwright and opera librettist, as well as a celebrated actor of his time.
