GAVARNI. MÉRY (Joseph)| FOELIX (comte)Les joyaux. Fantasy by Gavarni.
Text by Méry. [Followed by]: Minéralogie des dame by Cte Foelix. [With]: Les parures. Fantasy by Gavarni| text by Méry [Followed by]: Histoire de la mode by Cte Foelix.
Paris, G. de Gonet, Martinon, Vve Janet| Leipzig, Twietmeyer, [1850]. Two large volumes in-8, similar bindings, one emerald green, the other blue, half-maroquin with corners, spines with 5 ribbed boards decorated with a triple fillet of 2 fleurons, author, title, box ornaments with small irons, all gilt, gilt fillet on boards, covers and spines preserved, all margins preserved [Canape].
A very fine copy, finely produced by Canape. It brings together the two parts of the original edition of "Perles et parure" in two matching volumes. First edition of Gavarni's illustration, featuring a repeated frontispiece and 31 hors-texte figures engraved on steel by Geoffroy.
One of the deluxe copies with the engravings in double state, one on vellum with margins perforated in lace and finely colored, the other in black on Chine appliqué.
Such a "reunion of the two works with the engravings with lace margins is quite rare to encounter", according to Carteret.
