Two large volumes in-8, identical midnight-blue long-grain half morocco corner bindings, spines with 5 nerves decorated with a double gilt fillet, author, title and date gilt, caissons edged with a double fillet and decorated with fleurons, all gilt, gilt fillet on covers, gilt head, covers preserved, untrimmed [Stroobants] (tear on one corner).
A fine reunion of these two famous works by Louis Reybaud, the first illustrated by Grandville, the second by Tony Johannot, all finely produced by bookbinder Stroobants.
The first edition of Jérôme Paturot à la recherche d'une position sociale features 32 hors-texte compositions, including the frontispiece, and numerous woodcut vignettes after J.-J. Grandville.
Jérôme Paturot's illustration in search of the best republic contains 30 hors-texte compositions, including the frontispiece, and some 200 woodcut vignettes after Tony Johannot.
