First edition and 1st printing of this work written by Charles Nodier from notes by the Duc d'Orléans. Illustrated with compositions by Dauzats, Decamps and Raffet, engraved by Montigneul, Lavoignat, Hébert, Lavieille, Pisan and others, comprising 40 hors-texte figures on Chine contrecollé, a fold-out map and numerous vignettes in the text.
Copy on large vellum paper, nominative for Baron Pelet, Lieutenant-General, Director of the Dépôt Général de la Guerre.
Remarkable binding by Thierry, successor to Petit-Simier, commissioned by the bibliophile G. Valdelièvre.
