[VERSAILLES]. [DEMOARTAIN, ed.] Les plans, profils, et élévations des ville, et château de Versailles, avec les bosquets et fontaines... levez sur les lieus, dessinez et graves en 1714 et 1715... Paris, chez Demortain, [circa 1716]. In-folio, late 19th c. green half-velin (spine discolored and almost entirely missing| some browning and blemishes in margins).
and blemishes in margins, 5 plates lacking).
Entirely engraved collection consisting of [2] f (title, privilege, placed at the end), [49 (of 54?)] copper-engraved plates, unnumbered, some double or folding, including views drawn and engraved by P. Menant, fountain views after Girard, fontainier du roi, plans, views of buildings by Aveline, etc., and a large folding plan on several assembled leaves, by Pierre Lepautre, dated 1717. Added at the end are 8 plates 3,000 - 4,000 drawn and engraved by Israël Silvestre, from the suite "Les plaisirs de l'île enchantée" (light spotting on these plates), for a total of 57 plates.
Cohen's description of this collection (col. 808) mentions 54 plates. Silvestre's suite does not appear to be included, and some plates in this copy may not belong to the work. Nevertheless, the set offers a very fine panorama of the gardens of Versailles and their ornaments.
