Expanded second edition of this important collection of ancient and modern costumes, featuring over 500 full-page woodcut figures with accompanying commentary. The first half of the volume concerns Italy, followed by European countries and the rest of the known world: Africa, Asia, America. Twenty plates show characters from North and South America: they were not included in the first edition.
