(including engraved title), [53 (of 54)] plates, [2] f., contemporary ivory vellum, smooth muted spine, gilt scrolls and fleurons, boards bordered by a fillet and decorated with a central medallion, all gilt, gilt edges (stains and scratches on the binding, hole, stain and scratched signature in the margin of the title, wetness at the beginning of vol.

First edition of this collection of portraits of figures from ancient mythology, from Aesculapius to Vulcan, by cartographer and publisher Ortelius, based on his collection of antique medals.
The plates are attributed to Philippe Galle and consist of a medallion in an ornamental frame| the title is also engraved and in a decorative frame.
