GUÉRIDON AUX CARIATIDES
Circular pedestal table in oak and mahogany veneer, mounted in gilt bronze after a Jacob-Desmalter model.
The belt is richly decorated with applied bronzes. Three ormolu caryatids support the top and are linked to the legs by a brace adorned in the center with an urn flanked by three elegant ormolu crouching winged sphinxes.
Antique green circular marble top.
Some bronzes signed on the reverse "L Kahn" for Lazare Kahn dit Léon Kahn (1859 - 1925)
Empire style, Paris, 19th century, circa 1880.
Height: 76 cm - Diameter: 93 cm
(Very good condition, restored, slightly oiled)
The model of this superb pedestal table is based on a famous console table or "double-sided console" by the firm
Jacob-Desmalter from designs by Percier and Fontaine, delivered in 1808 to the Palais de l'Elysée in Paris, where it was located in the bedroom of
Caroline Murat, Napoleon's younger sister.
It was later moved to the Grand Trianon in
Versailles, where it remains to this day.
