Seated Buddha in vajrasana, hands in bhumiparshamudra, wearing a patchwork monastic robe with delicately stippled floral decoration, covering both shoulders.

PROVENANCE
Private collection in Paris.

NOTE
The arrangement of the monastic robe, where the garment is pulled over the right shoulder and tucked into a hem just below the right side of the chest, is an iconographic convention found on Dunhuang wall paintings. This detail reappears in Western Tibetan thangkas and sculptures from the 14th and 15th centuries.

CONDITION
Lotus base is missing, wear to the gilt, traces of oxidations, unsealed, age-consistent wear
