Note
The son of a painter, Marie Ernest Crosnier was born in Paris on January 17, 1832. Around 1861, he formed a partnership with Etienne Amable Yvoret to run a photography business at 51-53, rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis. The company was dissolved on February 4, 1864, with Yvoret as liquidator. It seems that Crosnier then operated alone at 48, rue des Marais-Saint-Martin. On April 2, 1868, Ernest Crosnier, painter, aged 36, married his companion Anne Adélaïde Serre, lingerie maker, at the town hall in the 19th arrondissement. In December 1873, when he asked for his birth certificate to be restored, it had been destroyed during the Paris Commune. Ernest Crosnier is a photographer living at 89, rue Rebeval in the 19th arrondissement. He later moved to 93 rue Rebeval. He died there on December 19, 1885. His death certificate lists him as a painter. Marie Ernest Crosnier was the brother of Paris photographer Paul Arthur Crosnier, who was much more active than his elder brother.
