The son of a Vietnamese lacquer craftsman, Jean Dinh Van trained as a jeweller at Cartier before setting up his workshop in Paris in the 1960s and opening his boutique on Rue de la Paix in the 1970s. He quickly made a name for himself through his collaboration with Pierre Cardin, who sold the ‘Deux Perles’ ring in his boutiques. This was followed by numerous collaborations with artists and figures from the fashion world, such as César, who designed the famous “Sein” pendant for him, and Paco Rabanne. He left his mark on jewellery with designs that broke with traditional conventions, such as his “Menottes”, symbols of love, connection and friendship, or his “Rasoir” line.
