LARGE TELEMACHUS CHARIOT CLOCK
in chased and gilded bronze depicting the figure
of Telemachus standing in his chariot drawn by
two prancing horses, with a roaring lion's head
is the head of a roaring lion, and at the rear
standing behind Telemachus is Athena,
the warrior goddess, wearing her helmet
and holding in her left hand a shield
with Medusa's head and a spear in her right
right hand a spear. The chariot and horses
rest on a rectangular base in green
onyx base decorated with laurel wreaths
and an eagle with outstretched wings. The corners
are flanked by lictor beams.
Modern work in the Empire style, based on
a drawing by André Reiche deposited in 1807
at the Bibliothèque Impériale.
