Case: round on hinge, fully enameled with the portrait of Sultan Abdülmecid 1st and a military trophy, gold bowl signed and numbered
Dial: white enamel with double indication of hours and minutes on subsidiary dials, Arabic and Turkish numerals, off-centered large seconds, all decorated with polychrome flowers and foliage
Movement: mechanical with key winding, anchor escapement, spiral balance, bridge-mounted adjuster with advance and retard.

This watch is one of a series signed by Auguste Courvoisier and made especially for the Ottoman market. Rare examples feature on the back the portrait of Sultan Abdülmecid I, who ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1839 to 1861. He is considered a reformer who led his people along the path of modernization. He worked to better integrate all citizens into Ottoman society. He also fought a growing nationalist fever that swept through the Empire's territories and forged ties with the UK and France, fighting alongside these countries in the Crimean War.
