NOTE:
Kakebotoke", literally "hanging Buddhas", are votive plaques with the image of a Shinto or Buddhist deity applied.
This type of religious decoration appeared at the end of the Heian period (794 - 1185), and was very popular during the Kamakura (1185 - 1333) and Muromachi (1333 - 1575) periods. These objects were used as offerings to preserve prosperity and ensure the flourishing of faith.
